Michael Schumacher’s wife makes emotional call

Michael Schumacher’s family has made the difficult decision to auction off his personal collection of luxury watches ahead of the Italian Grand Prix on May 19.

The F1 legend's wife Corinna is believed to have made the decision as she continues to care for him after his devastating skiing accident over 10 years ago.

Corinna manages Schumacher's $970 million fortune, which is set to grow with the sale of Schumacher's eight most valuable watches, including a one-of-a-kind FP Journe Vagabondage 1 Model, which is expected to sell for between $1.7 million and $3.4 million.

Auction house Christie’s will conduct the sale of the F1 legend's watch collection, which is believed to be worth roughly $6 million.

“Christie’s expresses sincere thanks to the Schumacher family for their trust in us and their wish to share these masterpieces of horology with other passionate collectors around the globe,” Rémi Guillemin, Christie’s Head of Watches Europe and US, said.

“We are proud to present these iconic and unique timepieces belonging to one of the most celebrated Formula 1 legends. An exceptional moment, for watch and F1 enthusiasts alike.

“We are looking forward to meeting with passionate collectors during our international exhibitions and the auction on 13 May in Geneva.”

One of the other watches going up for auction is an Audemars Piguet watch which features the Ferrari emblem, Schumacher’s helmet design, symbols representing his seven titles and an engraved message, which read: “Xmas 2004 — Jean Todt for my friend Michael Schumacher."

The watch was given to him by Todt and is expected to sell for between $250,000 and $425,000.

The auction is another financial move by Corinna, who reportedly meets with a small group of financial advisers about three or four times a year to make decisions about the family's sales and investments.

Ever since the accident Corinna has also been protecting her husband's privacy, with no one outside of Schumacher's inner circle knowing what happened to the F1 legend.

Image: Getty/ Christie's

F1 caller faces termination over "abhorrent" Schumacher comment

A Formula One pundit recently found himself issuing an apology for an unfortunate slip of the tongue during a live TV broadcast, where he inadvertently made an insensitive remark about the legendary Michael Schumacher. The incident unfolded in the aftermath of the Japanese Grand Prix during a post-race discussion on Spanish television, as reported by The Sun.

Antonio Lobato, the pundit in question, raised Schumacher's name during the discussion. Regrettably, his comment quickly made its way online, inciting outrage among fans due to its insensitivity toward the Formula One icon's ongoing health struggles.

In the clip in question, one of Lobato's fellow broadcaster quipped to him in Spanish, "Let Adrian Newey (Red Bull's chief technical officer) be shaking because Antonio Lobato is coming."

Lobato, perhaps in an attempt at humour in the moment, shot back, "Let Michael be shaking! Well... not Michael, he cannot shake."

Following this exchange, the pundits shared a laugh with their colleagues, Noemi de Miguel, Pedro de la Rosa, and Toni Cuquerella.

The incident provoked a strong backlash from viewers, with many demanding that Lobato apologise to Michael Schumacher's family. Some even called for his removal from DAZN, the broadcasting platform. One individual on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, "An apology would be the minimum, a sign of decency. You don't disrespect ANYONE that way, especially when thousands of people are watching you. Journalism in Spain has a very bright present and future with people like this."

Another comment read, "Using someone's medical condition as the punchline of a joke is unacceptable and abhorrent. Michael is beloved and respected in this sport, and [Lobato] doesn't deserve the platform he is given."

Subsequently, Lobato released an apology video on X, which has since garnered over five million views. In the five-minute video, he attempted to explain the "accident" while justifying his actions. Lobato stated in Spanish, "I made a mistake without any bad intentions. It was simply a mistake of pure clumsiness, of pure inability to express myself correctly, maybe because of too many hours up, jet lag in Madrid, or whatever – which is not an excuse for those of you who didn't see it."

He went on to clarify that he never intended to make a joke or mock Michael Schumacher and that anyone who knew him would understand this.

Lobato acknowledged his error, saying, "I think that everyone who knows me and knows what I'm like knows perfectly well that I would never make a joke about something like that. Never, but I was clumsy." He admitted that he had realised his mistake instantly after making the comment.

He also emphasised his deep regret, stating, "So the only thing I have to do, I think it's fundamental, is to apologise to all those who felt offended by that phrase yesterday. I really, really mean it. It was not my intention to say it to laugh, nor to make any kind of joke with Michael, whom I knew, whom I admire, and whom I think is a reference and who I think was quite unlucky."

Creo que es necesario dar explicaciones y reconocer que me he equivocado. Por favor, escuchad mi vídeo. Es un poco largo, pero creo que necesario. pic.twitter.com/89QlCMws2v

— Antonio Lobato (@alobatof1) September 25, 2023

Images: Twitter (X) / Netflix

"Without hope": Close friend shares sad Schumacher update

It has been a decade since the tragic skiing accident that left Formula 1 racing legend Michael Schumacher with life-threatening injuries, and the most recent update on his condition paints a decidedly sombre picture.

Renowned motorsport journalist Roger Benoit, a close friend of Schumacher, recently conveyed a disheartening assessment, describing Schumacher's situation as "a case without hope" in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Blick.

Schumacher's catastrophic incident occurred in December 2013 when he struck his head on a rock while skiing in the French Alps, resulting in severe brain damage. Despite wearing a helmet and skiing with his son Mick, Schumacher's life took a tragic turn. He spent 250 days in a medically-induced coma before finally returning home.

Since then, updates on Schumacher's condition have been exceptionally scarce, primarily due to the steadfast commitment of those close to him to protect his privacy.

In his recent interview, when pressed for a specific update on Schumacher's condition, Benoit offered these bleak words: "This sentence says everything about how (Michael) has been doing for over 3500 days. A case without hope."

In 2021, Schumacher's wife, Corinna, broke her silence and spoke about the accident for the first time in eight years during a Netflix documentary. She shared: "Michael is here. Different, but he's here, and that gives us strength, I find. We're together. We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he's comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond. And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will."

Now 54 years old, Michael Schumacher has not been seen in public for a decade. His absence has left a void in the world of Formula 1, where he was a legendary figure, having clinched the Drivers' World Championships seven times, a record tied with Lewis Hamilton for the most titles in history. Schumacher's impressive 91 career Grand Prix wins rank second only to Hamilton's 103 victories.

Image: Netflix

Schumacher’s family suing German magazine over fake interview

Michael Schumacher’s family is preparing to take legal action against German tabloid magazine Die Aktuelle, for publishing an AI-generated “interview” with the star.

The publication has been slammed for using Michael’s face on their April 15 front cover, promoting the piece as “the first interview” since the star’s skiing accident in December 2013.

“No meagre, nebulous half-sentences from friends. But answers from him! By Michael Schumacher, 54!” read the text in the magazine.

“It sounded deceptively real,” they added in the strapline, which was the only indicator that the piece was fake.

The “interview” included quotes that insensitively described Schumacher’s recovery, following the accident where he suffered a serious brain injury.

“I was so badly injured that I lay for months in a kind of artificial coma, because otherwise my body couldn’t have dealt with it all,” the quote read.

“I’ve had a tough time but the hospital team has managed to bring me back to my family,” they added.

It was only at the end of the article that the publication revealed that they used Character.ai, an AI chatbot, to create the interview.

A spokesperson for Schumachers confirmed their intention to take legal action against Die Aktuelle to Reuters and ESPN.

This isn’t the first time Schumacher’s family have taken action against Die Aktuelle.

In 2015, Michael’s wife, Corinna Schumacher filed a lawsuit against the magazine after they used Corinna’s picture with the headline: “Corinna Schumacher – a new love makes her happy.”

The story was actually about their daughter, Gina, but the lawsuit was dismissed.

Image: Getty Images

Sad update on Schumacher's wife

Eddie Jordan, former F1 boss and friend of the Schumachers, has opened up about how Corinna Schumacher has lived “like a prisoner” since her husband’s 2013 ski accident.

Corinna, who has been declared “Michael’s guardian angel” on more than one occasion, has been battling for an entire decade to uphold his wish for privacy when it comes to his health and his ongoing recovery.

It is reported that Corinna handles the Schumacher family’s affairs, and it’s a rare occasion when she does speak about her husband and family, despite overwhelming interest in how Michael is doing - all while helping son Mick launch his own career in Formula 1.

And now, Eddie Jordan - who was a key player in Michael’s 1991 F1 experience - has spoken up about the reality of Corinna’s situation, admitting in an interview with The Sun Online that she is living “like a prisoner”.

"This was the most horrific situation for Mick and Corinna," he said. “It's been nearly ten years now and Corinna has not been able to go to a party, to lunch or this or that, she's like a prisoner because everyone would want to talk to her about Michael when she doesn't need reminding of it every minute."

He confessed that Corinna once denied him a visit with his friend, as she had imposed a kind of “family only” rule when it came to seeing Michael after the 2013 incident. Eddie wasn’t offended, instead supporting her decision, aware that the rule had come from a place of love, and that he knows her “very well, and a long time before Michael Schumacher.”

However, there is apparently one individual who is allowed to stop by - Jean Todt, F1 chief and former boss for Ferrari.

"She's a lovely girl,” he continued, “and I knew her when she married Michael so there is a long history of good relations.

"I made an effort to go see Michael in the early days and Corinna refused, and rightfully so because too many people wanted to go see him.

"Jean Todt was given the privilege to go see him because of how close they were from their time together at Ferrari which is completely understandable.

"I was not able to go see Michael and they said 'we love you Eddie and we've been involved with you for a very long time, but we do need privacy and safeguard of Michael'."

This isn’t the first time that Eddie has spoken out about his friends, having explained early in 2023 that the 54-year-old Michael was “there, but not there.”

And Corinna has revealed something similar herself, as seen in the documentary Schumacher, where she said, “I miss Michael every day. But it's not just me who misses him.

"It's the children, the family, his father, everyone around him.

"I mean, everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here. Different, but he's here and that gives us strength … we try to carry on a family as Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives.

“'Private is private', as he always said. It is very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible.

"Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael."

Images: Getty

F1 legend shares rare update Michael Schumacher

Formula 1 icon Eddie Jordan has shared a health update about his close friend Michael Schumacher, saying the motorsport legend is “there, but not there” as mystery continues to surround his health.

Schumacher, 54, has not been seen or heard from for nearly ten years after his horror ski crash in 2013.

He was left with a severe brain injury and in a medically induced coma.

Mystery surrounds his condition as his family has imposed a strict “family only” rule on who can visit him.

It came as Michael’s son Mick followed in his dad’s footsteps into F1.

Unfortunately, 23-year-old Mick struggled and lost his race seat at the end of 2022 after a series of crashes for the Haas team.

Eddie was denied a visit to see Michael but has been in contact with Mick.

The F1 star said his “love” for the seven-time world champion “still lasts and will always do so while I’m able to draw breath.” when speaking to sports betting firm OLBG.

Last year, he revealed his son Mick had reached out to him.

“As far as I’m concerned, I was touched by it and the reason I was touched by it was because it can’t be easy knowing that your father is not able to be part of the family, he’s there but he’s not there,” Jordan said.

Jordan revealed that Mick spoke highly of his father while he was enduring his own struggles in F1.

“It touched me because I felt so much about Michael, I went out of my way to find him, give him his first chance in Spa, didn’t last very long but that love for him still lasts and will always do so while I’m able to draw breaths,” Eddie said.

Mick was dropped by Haas in favour of veteran driver Nico Hulkenberg for 2023 and is now a reserve driver at Mercedes.

Mick will be backing up Sir Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, potentially stepping in for them if they have to miss a race.

Eddie believes Mick has it in him to find his way back into a full-time race seat.

“He’s been dropped for somebody else, and that’s a tough decision, he has another fight to come back and to make his name, climb up that ladder again,” Eddie said.

“I’m quite sure he will do it.”

Jordan also revealed Michael named his son after racing champion Mick Doohan, saying Mick was given his name “as a mark of respect” to Doohan.

“Mick Schumacher isn’t named after his dad like a lot of people seem to think,” he said.

“Mick Schumacher is named after a person who his father, Michael, was in total awe of, a sportsman who had won five world titles back to back with Honda.

“And that is no other than Mick Doohan.

“As a mark of respect, Michael Schumacher called his son Mick.”

Last year, Jordan revealed that Michael’s wife denied him permission to visit Schumacher after his horror skiing accident.

His wife Corinna keeps his health journey a closely guarded secret.

Corinna prefers to treat her husband privately at their home in Geneva, Switzerland, with ex-Ferrarri boss Jean Todt, one of the only people allowed to see him outside his immediate family.

Jordan said he contacted Corinna, who was once the girlfriend of his team’s driver Heinz Harold Frentzen.

Jordan told the Irish Daily Mirror, “I reached out and one stage asked was it appropriate and did I think we should go and visit him.

“The answer was no. No visitations for anyone at that moment except the actual direct family.

“However, since then, young Mick Schumacher – Michael’s son – has reached out to me, and he has been extraordinary.”

"He’s a very proud dad": Unearthed snap of Michael Schumacher stuns fans

Max Verstappen has shared never been seen photos of Michael Schumacher with the world.

The back-to-back Formula 1 world champion is currently preparing to secure a third straight crown for Red Bull in 2023.

Before the season begins, F1 fans are being treated to a sneak peek behind the curtain as Netflix’s smash hit Drive to Survive releases its fifth season.

Verstappen is heavily featured throughout episode four of the new season, which was released globally on February 24, focusing primarily on former Haas driver Mick Schumacher.

The episode, titled Like Father, Like Son?, brings to light the struggles the famous young racer endured before he was let go by the Haas team.

However, it's Verstappen who once again steals the show as he shares what it was like to grow up alongside the Schumacher family.

Max’s father, Jos, was teammates with Michael at Benetton, with an old interview filmed in the 2000s showing the pair being asked if they would let their kids become F1 drivers.

“I think this could be the first time we have an argument if our two would be racing,” says the German.

It’s what came next that stole the hearts of many, leaving F1 fans stunned. As Max talks about the relationship between the two families, a clip of Max as a toddler interacting with Michael is played before a never been seen photo flashes on the screen.

“We used to go on holidays when we were little together, the two families, and these kind of memories will stay with me,” explains Max, who is now a 35-time race winner in F1.

“For both of us to be in F1 is amazing and also for Michael, he’s a very proud dad for sure.”

The image shows Michael sitting on a hanging chair with baby Max on one knee and his daughter, Gina-Maria, on the other.

Mick was replaced by F1 journeyman Nico Hulkenberg and will have to sit out 2023 as a reserve driver at Mercedes behind Sir Lewis Hamilton and his teammate George Russell.

Drive to Survive charts Mick’s difficult sophomore season in 2022, including his horror 170mph incident in Saudi Arabia.

Mick’s rough year saw him outscored by his teammate, the returning Danish veteran Kevin Magnussen.

The Netflix series focuses on Mick’s struggles and the pressure that came with racing under the Schumacher name.

“Mick has the lineage of one of the greatest drivers the sport has ever seen,” said F1 journalist Will Buxton.

“But it remains to be seen if he has the same character as his dad.”

Haas boss Steiner said the Schumacher name was a “blessing and a curse” for Mick.

But in characteristically non-nonsense fashion, the famously foul-mouthed team principal says at some point the young German will have “stand up” and be his “own man”.

Mick outlines the struggles surrounding pressure on the show, including the admission “dreams don’t always come true”.

His dad is one of the most renowned F1 drivers of all time, rising to power in the 90s and going on to dominate the sport by the early 2000s.

He raced from 1991 to 2006 and again from 2010 to 2012, a second act of his racing career which became instrumental in setting up the dominant Mercedes team.

The German won five world championships with Ferrari and two for Benetton.

Schumacher retired in 2012, but a year later, he was involved in a life-changing skiing accident while on the slopes with Mick.

He was left in a medically induced coma before being sent home, and no further information has been revealed since the incident.

His family, led by his wife Corinna, protect Michael’s privacy and offer him a quiet life.

There have only been hints and cryptic rumours about Schumacher’s health, with information being drip-fed by friends and anonymous sources.

Michael Schumacher’s family accused of lying about star’s condition

Michael Schumacher's family have been accused of lying about the F1 star’s condition following a scary brain injury incident.

The F1 champion’s health has been closely monitored following a terrifying skiing accident at a French resort of Meribel in December 2013.

His wife and family have been keeping his condition under wraps as he recovers at their home in Switzerland.

However, Schumacher's former manager Willi Weber, 80, has accused the family of preventing him from visiting and speaking to the star since the incident.

Weber has spoken to Schumacher's wife Corinna and close friend Jean Todt who repeatedly told him that “it’s too early” and to just “wait”.

“I tried hundreds of times to contact Corinna and she didn't answer," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I called Jean Todt to ask him if I should go to the hospital and he told me to wait – it's too early.

"I called the next day and no one answered. I didn't expect behaviour like that and I'm still angry about it. They kept me out, telling me it's too early, well now it's too late. It's been nine years. Maybe they should just say it the way it is.

"I could understand the situation initially as I always did everything I could for Michael to protect his private life. But since then we have only heard lies from them."

Corrina appeared in the Netflix documentary SCHUMACHER, and spoke about wanting to protect her family after her husband’s incident.

“Michael is here. The truth about “horrible” Michael Schumacher claims

Former Ferrari boss Ross Brawn has exposed the truth about claims Michael Schumacher was a “despicable, horrible character”.

The man who was by the German driver’s side during his seven F1 world titles said Schumacher was a very different person when off the track.

The legendary racer was known to be a ruthless driver on the track, which swayed public opinion.

The 51-year-old was accused of driving “dangerously” as he needed to win no matter what, but Brawn said Schumacher changed people’s opinions once they met him away from the track.

“I don’t know if he quite enjoyed the impression he created because he was quite an intimidating character in many ways,” Brawn told Sky’s new docu-series Race to Perfection.

“But if you knew him personally he was quite the opposite, very engaging, very personal.

“So many times I introduced him to people who, before they met him, thought he was a despicable, horrible character and you introduce them, and once they got to know him they completely changed.

“I had that happen so many times because there was Michael the racing driver out on the track and there was Michael the human being away from the track.”

Brawn says whoever had the chance to get to know Schumacher on a personal level thought the world of him.

“I don’t know of anyone who worked with Michael who had a bad word to say about him,” Brawn said.

“Lots of people who raced against him had a different opinion but nobody I know who ever worked with Michael ever had a bad opinion about him because of his integrity, his commitment, his human side.

“He was a very strong team member of any team he was part of and it’s a tragedy what’s happened but he’s a lovely human being.”

Michael Schumacher’s former manager reveals F1 driver’s “stupidest decision”

When Michael Schumacher retired from Formula 1, he was untouchable as the greatest champion in the sport’s history.

Five straight championships and seven all up, Schumacher was in a league of his own.

In the 250 races he took part in between 198 and 2006, Schumacher had 68 pole positions, 154 podiums and an astounding 91 wins.

Schumacher was breaking records left right and centre – until he signed on to a three-year deal with Mercedes in 2010.

In his last 58 races over three years, Schumacher claimed just one podium, finishing third behind Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso at the 2012 European Grand Prix, where he was the oldest driver to make a podium since Jack Brabham at the 1970 Grand Prix at the age of 43.

While the end of his career left some of his records under pressure from a driver such as Hamilton, Schumacher’s former manager Willi Weber revealed that he tried to talk Schumacher out of a return in 2010.

“Let’s say, this was, even in hindsight, the stupidest thing he could do,” Weber told Motorsport-Total.com.

“He told me he was bored, he had to drive. Then I say, ‘Michael, what do you want? You can only lose. You can’t win anymore. You won everything. You are the best racer in the world. You stand on the highest pedestal that exists. You can only lose now’.

“But, he just didn’t want to hear it.”

Schumacher ended up sticking to his decision and the two ended their professional relationship.

But despite his comeback wasn’t what many expected, he’s still considered one of the greatest drivers of all time.

After sustaining a head injury in 2013 during a skiing accident, Schumacher is now rarely sighted as his family has remained notoriously tight lipped about his condition.

Michael Schumacher is “very altered” six years on from the horror ski accident which left him with a shocking brain injury, according to a leading neurosurgeon.

The Formula One champion was close to death when a skiing accident saw him fall and hit his head on a rock in the French Alps in December 2013.

Despite the iconic racer coming out of his long-term coma, surgeon Nicola Acciari claims he won't be the man his millions of adoring fans remember.

“We must imagine a person very different from the one we remember on the track, with a very altered and deteriorated organic, muscular and skeletal structure,” Dr Acciari told Italian newspaper Contro Copertina.

“All as a result of the brain trauma he suffered.”

Dr Acciari has not treated the sporting star herself.

Schumacher’s former boss at Ferrari revealed last year that the 51-year-old is making progress in his recovery and enjoys watching F1 races on TV.

Jean Todt, one of Schumacher’s closest friends, gave a rare insight during an interview with Radio Monte-Carlo (RMC).

Speaking to the station, Todt said he had been making good progress, with the pair watching the races on TV together.

He added: “I’m always been careful with such statements, but it’s true. Michael Schumacher’s former teammate spills on what the F1 legend is really like

A former Ferrari teammate has lifted the lid on what it was like to work alongside Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher.

Rubens Barrichello was Schumacher’s right-hand man for six seasons and explained what it was like working alongside him.

Drivers know there’s a hierarchy within teams and despite being on the same team, drivers can sometimes be competitive with the men they call teammates.

Barrichello says that Schumacher wasn’t always a supportive and open teammate.

“I’ve always made friends and had a great relationship between my teammates. I do (include Michael), but he was never supportive … it’s not the right word. He would never be there to offer help so I never asked because there are teammates to go and ask,” Barrichello said on F1’s Beyond the Grid podcast.

“For example Eddie Irvine, you ask him and he says ‘I don’t know which gear I take that corner’. I got p****d one day because I couldn’t understand how the hell he doesn’t know what gear and he doesn’t really know, he just doesn’t think, he did it naturally.

“So you have to learn people with Michael it was different, he was a bit naive in a way that he worked his way.”

He also spoke about meetings with just Schumacher, even though they were a part of the same team.

“So many times I grabbed my chair because the meeting was already finished and then they started another meeting with just Michael there and I said hmm this is funny.

“I took my chair and I just would sit there, say nothing and just stay there.”

Eventually, Barrichello said that figuring out that the team was essentially Schumacher’s didn’t change his own ambitions towards the championships.

“Eventually I felt that (it was Schumacher’s team), eventually I felt that the team was his,” he said.

“It never dropped my emotions, seeing as I had to overcome my emotions to get better and to race against the best it wasn’t that ‘oh ok this engine was for him and this engine is for Rubens’.

“I think they’d done such a good job on the year 2000 already that the engines had the same amount of power, but one is special and would have a choice to go to Michael but I think at the end of the day it was not a problem for me to race the same car as him.”

Barrichello said that the thing that set Schumacher from the rest was his courage at high speeds.

View this post on Instagram

#tbtFerrari Badoer era magrin magrin 😂 /// #tbtFerraridays. 50kg for Badoer.... #forzaschumi @michaelschumacher

A post shared by Rubens Barrichello 1️⃣1️⃣1️⃣ (@rubarrichello) on Nov 28, 2019 at 10:58am PST

“He was super, super on high speed like very courageous. The way I drove on the low speed was actually I was taking more speed out of it than him,” he explained.

“I remember so many times Ross (Brawn) telling him that he had too do something different. I became so much better on the high speed because of him.

“I think we both went to another level of pushing each other so it was good.

“It’s not that easy to make Michael Schumacher go to another level.

“Mine had to be mental. How do you go to a racetrack knowing that you have a B option of a pit stop and this and that and still be ready to win?”

Barrichello said that he would have walked away with “at least one” championship had the time been split equally between Schumacher and himself.

“If you put myself against Michael, I think it was a 70-30 split, lets put it this way he was better than me.

“He was more complete, and Michael didn’t have bad days, whenever he had a bad day or he was vulnerable the team around him prepared him to be back up. They knew how to affect him positively.

“But if it was run straight, just the same strategy for everyone I might have won at least one championship … at least one.

“It doesn’t make a difference now, it’s part of the past. I didn’t and I’m happy with that because I tried.”

Michael Schumacher's wife the centre of startling new claim

Michael Schumacher’s former manager has claimed that the Formula One legend’s wife has been keeping her husband’s condition private for fear of “the truth” going “public”.

Schumacher has not been seen in public since his skiing accident in December 2013.

Speaking in a German TV documentary, Schumacher’s long-term manager Will Weber claimed that requests to visit his former client have been denied by the seven-time world champion’s wife Corinna Schumacher.

“I know that Michael has been hit hard, but unfortunately I do not know what progress he makes,” Weber said on The Michael Schumacher Tale RTL special.

“I’d like to know how he’s doing and shake hands or stroke his face. But unfortunately, this is rejected by Corinna.

“She’s probably afraid that I’ll see right away what’s going on and make the truth public.”

However, Weber said he believed fans will see Schumacher again.

“I firmly believe in Michael’s recovery, because I know he is a fighter,” Weber said.

“If there is a chance, he will use it. That cannot be the end.

“I pray for him and am convinced that we will see him again.”

Weber’s comments came as Corinna gave her first interview since the skiing accident.

Speaking to She Magazine, Corrina paid tribute to her husband, whom she said helped her develop a passion for horses. “When I was 30, I very much wanted to have a horse and Michael went with me to Dubai, where I intended to buy an Arabian horse,” she said.

“He did everything for me. I will never forget who I have to thank. That would be my husband Michael.”

“He is conscious”: Turning point in Michael Schumacher's sad plight

Formula One star Michael Schumacher is said to be “conscious” after undergoing stem-cell treatment in Paris, France, a French newspaper has reported.

The Le Parisien revealed earlier this week the seven-time world champion had been admitted to Georges-Pompidou hospital for a complex treatment involving the transfusions of inflammation-reducing stem cells.

The cardiac surgeon who carried out the complex operation, Professor Philippe Menasche is also the same doctor who performed the world’s first embryonic cell transplant on a patient with heart failure in just 2014.

“He is in my area. And I can assure you that he is conscious,” a source told the French newspaper.

The 50-year-old German was left with severe brain damage in 2013 after suffering an accident while skiing.

The Formula One legend has since been recovering at his family home in Lausanne and while his family has kept his condition as private as possible, new details have come to light about the trip to Paris.

An Italian newspaper La Repubblica quoted biology professor Angelo Vescovi who claimed to have been “contacted by a person who knew Schumacher’s family”.

“They asked if something could be done (for Schumacher). At that time, we had made an attempt to inject the same cells we use for multiple sclerosis into the brain of a boy in a coma with quite good results,” he said.

“At the moment, we can only make assumptions about what they are doing in Paris.”

The Le Parisien reports the Ferrari and Mercedes driver has an estimate of 10 security guards watching over him at the hospital.

The family said on the star’s 50th birthday that they were “doing everything humanly possible" and “that he is in the very best of hands”.

The manager of Schumacher, Nick Fry, spoke about his accident in his new book Survive. Drive. Win. where he wrote: “Corinna (Schumacher’s wife) and the family have kept a very tight control on information about his condition and his treatment which, I think, is a pity.

“There are millions of people out there who have a genuine affection for Michael, and that’s not just his fans in Germany or fans of Mercedes Benz.

“He has sustained an injury while skiing, which unfortunately happens to ordinary people every year. Families of those in recovery generally react better if they know other people are in the same boat.

“I am sure that techniques and therapies have been developed and tried (with Schumacher) over the last few years that may well help others.

“It would be helpful for his family to share how they have dealt with this challenge.”
